The Tokyo edition of Red Bull Music Academy has whittled more than 6,000 applicants down to its final 60 fall participants, a cross-continental — 34 counties in all! — array of producers (Larry Gus, Xosar, Sapphire Slows) and performers (Zebra Katz, former Dirty Projectors member Angel Deradoorian, WIFE) that proves the program is about supporting much more than just its core demo of fringe electronic music fans.

“The final group of 60 has been selected to represent a diverse array of styles, skill levels, methodologies and cultural backgrounds,” RBMA organizers wrote in a press release. “They will each participate in one of two fortnight-long ‘terms’, with 30 artists attending each term.”

Class is in session (sorry, we had to do it) starting in October; an endless, wormhole of an interactive site about the Academy’s Tokyo run can be found here. Warning: It may distract you from work for a bit. More than usual, at least. A trailer for Layered Memories, a documentary about one of RBMA’s 2011 graduates is also available below, along with the full list of 2014 ‘students’…
