RZA told Billboard the iconic hip-hop group’s new album “should be available by Black Friday.” But first, on November 14, shipments are set to begin of a Wu-Tang Clan portable speaker with a built-in album sampler titled A Better Tomorrow Special Play. Available for pre-order here, the speaker will come with eight songs from the full-length, plus two non-album instrumentals and a speaker-only track, “Big Horn B.” The device will be limited to 3,000 units and can also play other music via Bluetooth.
As for A Better Tomorrow, RZA said the recording took place around the globe. Locales for the sessions included Ghostface Killah collaborator Adrian Younge‘s Southern California basement, the Memphis, Tennessee studio of soul great Willie Mitchell and various studios in Europe.
RZA also said A Better Tomorrow “has a small concept in a sense.” He continued: “Musically it travels from a guy who is going through difficulties, tries to find himself, gets involved with some violence, some troubles, but then realizes that it’s best sometimes to walk away from the past and all the bad times and maybe work on making his life better, and making a better tomorrow.”
Wu-Tang Clan recently released only one copy of another album, Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, which features Cher. A press release first penciled in the release of A Better Tomorrow for July 2013, and it was more recently scheduled to arrive this summer. It can’t have hurt, though, that in May the group announced a “truce” between RZA and fellow Wu co-founder Raekwon. In August, the full Wu-Tang Clan (save for the late Ol’ Dirty Bastard) performed new song “Ron O’Neal” on The Daily Show.
