Wolfmother Surprise Fans With ‘New Crown’ Album

Wolfmother have reunited — well, sort of; the only founding member is frontman Andrew Stockdale — and released their third record via Bandcamp. Available to stream below along with the official video for its lead single “Heavy Weight,” New Crown arrives just a year after Stockdale told Billboard the band’s Melbourne gig with Aerosmith would be their last.

“For the last three years I’ve performed as Wolfmother, and I don’t feel comfortable about it,” he explained. “Chris Ross, who played bass and keys in the first line-up when we started, he came up with that band name. That name was for me, Chris and [drummer] Myles Heskett. It became Wolfmother. Because of the success of the name, there was pressure then to call yourself Wolfmother. But it felt weird.”

The singer/guitarist went the solo route soon after, unveiling the Keep Moving LP to little fanfare. Now that he’s back as Wolfmother with bassist/keyboardist Ian Peres and drummer Vin Steele in tow, he appears to have found his footing like it’s 2005 all over again…
