In a film that might as well be called Brooklyn People, Beastie Boy Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz plays a good pal of Ben Stiller’s. The movie, directed by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale, Kicking and Screaming) is actually called While We’re Young and features a score by none other than LCD Soundsystem maestro James Murphy, who also provided the music for Baumbach’s Greenberg, which also starred Stiller.
The plot revolves around Stiller and his wife, played by Naomi Watts, coping with getting older by befriending a 20-something hipster couple played by Girls star Adam Driver and Amanda Seyfried. Horovitz is rightly concerned when Stiller, in a bid to appear more youthful, starts wearing a fedora, saying, “You’re an old man with a hat.” Many scenes were obviously shot on location in Brooklyn and contain the kind of things you’ll find in the residence of stereotypical young creative type living in Kings County, like trendy vintage-ish stuff such as vinyl records, a typewriter, and a VCR (not that we’d know from experience or anything). While We’re Young was shown at the Toronto Film Festival and is due for a regular release on March 27, 2015. Check out the trailer below.
