Rivers Cuomo opens the new Weezer single with an apology: “Sorry guys/ I didn’t realize/ That I needed you so much/ I thought I’d get a new audience/ I forgot that disco sucks/ I ended up with nobody/ And I started feeling dumb/ Maybe I should play the lead guitar and Patrick play the drums.” The chorus then kicks in, with the band “rocking out like it’s ’94,” and all but confirming that the Ric Ocasek reunion Everything Will Be Alright in the End will be the long overdue return to Weezer’s roots many fans gave up on a long time ago.
