In case you missed the live stream of Red Bull Music Academy’s rare D’Angelo interview earlier this week, it’s now airing online, breaking years of relative silence with nearly 90 minutes of elusive answers to questions posed by author Nelson George and a few Twitter fans. Among the revelations that didn’t involve D’Angelo’s long-delayed third album: the singer has heard new material by Sly Stone that’s “progressive” and heavy on the Auto-Tune; he’s not a fan of the critic-generated term “neo-soul”; and he was a “pretty fuckin’ good” MC well before he recorded Brown Sugar.
