Dangerous Minds dug up quite a YouTube find for Pavement fans today, a soundboard-quality bootleg from the Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain that was shot by two fans and “matrix-mixed to create [an] excellent professional quality multimedia production.” As welcome as the band’s live reunion was in 2010, it was also a much tenser affair — in the beginning at least — than the loose set captured down below. It was also decidedly temporary, a matter-of-time meeting they won’t be doing again anytime soon.
“We’re sticking to our guns and what we promised, even though it has been fun,” frontman Stephen Malkmus told Las Vegas Weekly when he was asked about the band’s future. “Anyone who bought a ticket to see us, I don’t want them to have paid these slightly higher prices to see us and then have us right back there again — it’s just disingenuous. And we want to keep it fun. As soon as it gets to a kind of Pixies you-just-keep-going-because-you-can, it becomes more of a job. We didn’t want it to be that way. We just wanted it to be a blast.”
