“As far as Africa is concerned,” Fela Kuti says in the trailer for the new documentary Finding Fela, “music cannot be for enjoyment. Music has to be for revolution. Music is the weapon.”

Directed by Academy Award-winner Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Darkside, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), the film looks to further the story told by the three-time Tony Award-winning musical FELA! — which had its off-Broadway premiere in 2008 and last received a Broadway revival in 2012 — with rare performance and interview footage. Among the artists set to appear in the movie are Paul McCartney, ?uestlove, Tony Allen and more, capturing the breadth of Kuti’s influence with their commentary.
