If there’s one clear piece of connective tissue driving Damon Albarn’s long overdue debut album — outside of the paranoid android passages one would expect from a record called Everyday Robots — it’s how the Blur frontman relates to the world around him. Literally. So while the LP’s lead single was represented by a high concept collaboration with artist/designer Aitor Throup, Albarn shot his own iPad-sourced footage for its subsequent videos, “Lonely Press Play” and the Brian Eno-featuring “Heavy Seas of Love.” With the help of editor Matt Cronin, both clips transcend mere travelogue pieces and allude to the deeper issues at play when you’re constantly in motion and home is whatever happens to be on the other side of the window in front of you.

At least that’s what we think Albarn’s up to. Maybe he simply likes racking up frequent flier miles while flexing his propensity for mildly psychedelic filmmaking…
