There’s sin all over “Halcyon,” the first video from Mexican Slang’s debut EP Inside the Velvet Castle. The marquees of seedy ’70s strip clubs give way to the beaming entrances to garish casinos. Throughout, vocalist Annabelle Lee lays beneath them, delivering the song’s ominous lyrics in a booming, zombie croon. It feels like it runs on malice and black magic, and it’s as terrifically skin-crawling as it is indelible and effective.
