Michael Coomer has moved on from one big city to the next with his sophomore release as Lace Curtains. While The Garden of Joy and the Well of Loneliness explored New York City, the former Harlem vocalist’s upcoming A Signed Piece of Paper takes on life in Los Angeles. The scenery is set from the beginning of “Pink and Gold,” a track about a failed actress in which Coomer murmurs, “She dyes her hair blonde and goes to the beach.” The theme of “making it” in Hollywood extends itself to a video that features an excessively nervous comedian performing in a club, following three wildly successful acts. Underlined by a resolute drum rhythm and bobbing guitar chord progression, “Pink and Gold” harnesses deadpan poignancy coupled with a deceivingly lighthearted pop sensibility.
A Signed Piece Of Paper is out October 28th via Female Fantasy.
