The video for Honduras’s “The Program” has the grainy quality of an ’80s home movie or an old grindhouse horror film. The band is shown sweating through the marauding song on a variety of New York stages (locals will recognize Cake Shop and Death by Audio, for starters). But the deliberately lo-fi quality of the images adds to the song’s sense of menace. The guitars are tense and driving, the drums throttle like some demonic surf song, and the lyrics — taunting, beckoning, sneering — are the stuff of a misanthrope’s tumblr. It all adds up to a bracing, thrilling final product.
