The first few moments of the video for “Last Forever” from UK band Fenech-Soler juxtapose two strikingly different images: people hustling through a black-and-white city and glimpses of full-color shots of nature. It’s appropriate; the song itself is about hope and escape, leaving behind the day-to-day for something unexpected and loaded with hope. For Rituals, the song from which “Last Forever” is taken, the band said they wanted to try their hand at writing “bigger” songs. Judging by “Last Forever,” they succeeded. It’s a big, pulsing number, lit up with synths and propelled by a sleek rhythm that nods toward David Bowie’s “Modern Love.” It crests in a chorus that recalls a higher-wattage Phoenix, with whom the band have toured. All in all, it’s the sound of a young band embracing possibility and living — and exulting — in the moment.
