Isaac Gillespie’s weirdo web of anti-folk and proto-punk is oddly irresistible. Earlier this month, his Brooklyn band the Due Diligence released their second full-length Are You Down, which features slacker anthem, “Party Crasher.” Gillespie’s voice edges on cracking over a mesh of self-deprecating lyrics and Stooges-esque rock arrangements. The video takes us on a trippy ride into a dingy, DIY show, where a bunch of crazy youths are blindfolded and given ill-advised home tattoos. “Party Crasher” exudes an altered state of mind that’s palpable, especially during Gillespie’s carnal freakout backed by a fuzzed-out, psychedelic guitar solo.
