Torche have said their Relapse debut would be “heavier than ever.” The powerhouse Florida metal band is already making good on that promise. Last month came the first preview of Restarter, the follow-up to 2012′s Harmonicraft, in the form of the sludge-y, midtempo riff monster “Minions.” Now, we have the even more crushing opener, “Annihilation Affair.”

Restarter is due out on February 24. Converge‘s Kurt Ballou handled the mixing duties. The whole album could offer a broader sonic palette — Torche bassist Jonathan Nuñez, in the same interview where he predicted the new album would be their heaviest yet, also described a song called “Bishop in Arms,” where the vocals have “this whole Psychedelic Furs — and maybe Guided By Voices — phrasing.”

Listen to “Minions” below and “Annihilation Affair” over at Pitchfork.
