Greetings! Top of the Morning is your daily AM news round-up. We paid attention overnight and gathered relevant tidbits to share over that first cup of coffee.

The new trailer for Fifty Shades of Grey premiered last night during an episode of ABC’s Scandal. While the first trailer for the film presented a new version of Beyoncé’s 2003 hit “Crazy in Love,” the new trailer uses the studio version of “Haunted” from last year’s Beyoncé.

There’s seems to be some social media drama going down between Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez. According to Billboard, one of their interns spent some time perusing through his lists on Instagram to confirm that he is no longer following Gomez. In the meantime, Gomez posted a cozy shot of herself with her recent video companion, actor Shiloh Fernandez. But Bieber has some videos of Kendall Jenner on his account, and while we might try and come to some conclusions about what this all means, we just remembered that we don’t care.

Speaking of Kardashians though, it turns out that Kim K has a friend in Lorde; defender of celebrities. It turns out that fans misinterpreted a comment that Lorde made on her Twitter account in reference to Kardashian’s now infamous Paper Magazine cover:

So the singer wrote a Tumblr post addressing the issue:

i retweeted kim’s amazing cover and wrote ‘MOM’, which among the youthz is a compliment; it basically jokingly means “adopt me/be my second mom/i think of you as a mother figure you are so epic” (obviously i love my own mama and she is the best tho) but straight after that i think someone else called out the cover saying kim has no right to look that sexy as she is a mother which is TOTAL trash – why should that stop her? [Lorde is referring to Naya Rivera's comment.] if anything i think she gets even more beautiful and sexy all the time like a fineass wine, and of course has every right to showcase that – but i think our two comments got lumped in and also maybe reporters don’t understand my breed of humour/worship. i am the biggest fan of jean-paul goude and of grace jones, as you know, and there’s no way i could support one and not the other you know? it wouldn’t make any sense to worship rih in her swarovski crystal gown at the CFDAs, or grace naked on the cover of island life (as shot by goude!), and not kim. to summarize – kim’s cover was pure heaven. so so beautiful. i’m proud to say it’ll be on my wall.

Lorde went on to say that she talked to Mrs. Kardashian West to personally address any misunderstandings and all was well between the two. Then she went back to telling Diplo that he has a small dick.

In an interview with The Guardian, Azealia Banks took the time to address some old Twitter feuds, specifically one that she had with Disclosure. She told the publication:

I tweeted that I just had the best session with Disclosure, because I was such a fan-girl and I was so excited to have met them. But I guess their thing was: “What if the song isn’t that good and you hyped it up?” But I was like: “So fucking what?” So they tried to be, like, assholes… I want to punch one of them in the face – the little one [possibly Guy Lawrence]. The ugly one. I want to hit him so bad. I saw him at the airport in Australia and I came over to him and I was like: “Hello? Like, what are we going to do with this song?” And he was just being a dickhead. I started crying, I was so angry. I wanted to hit him. I cannot stand that little boy with all those pimples around his mouth. I love their music, though.

She also goes on to describe her spat with the Stone Roses, “I kind of deserved it,” and Iggy Azalea, “Nobody’s going to go to Nobu and have a McDonald’s.”

Last month, the Foo Fighters decided to sit in with David Letterman for an entire week. Apparently The Tonight Show got a little jealous, because U2 will be there all of next week. They’re also trying to up the ante a bit by offering to include you in their performance.

Not everyone all at once, now.

Lee Kirk is directed a new film called Geezer and he’s invited Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong to join the cast. Kirk described the film by saying, “Geezer centers on the mid-life crisis of a husband and father who, on his 40th birthday, decides to revisit his punk-rock past by throwing an extravagant party in the presidential suite of the Drake Hotel — where he encounters his beautiful ex-girlfriend and former bandmates who have since moved on to bigger and better things.” Armstrong also wrote original music for the movie’s score. According to Variety, the cast also includes Fred Armisten, Judy Greer, Selma Blair, Dallas Roberts, Chris Messina and Brian Baumgartner.

Happy Friday.
