TLC now have the cash to record a new album. And then some.
The beloved ’90s R&B group launched a Kickstarter campaign last month to fund their first album since 2002′s 3D, released shortly after the tragic passing of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. The funding period closed yesterday, and surviving members Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas have raised $430,255, as Miss Info notes. That’s well over their $150,000 goal.
“Thank you to everyone who has donated to our final album!!” Chilli wrote in an update shortly before the campaign closed. “The amount doesn’t matter but the fact that you donated means the world to us.”
Among the project’s donors was Katy Perry, who gave $5,000. Dallas Austin, who co-wrote TLC hits such as “Ain’t 2 Proud 2 Beg,” “Creep” and “Unpretty,” has signed on for the project, as has Ne-Yo, who co-wrote 2013 reunion song “Meant to Be.” The executive producer is veteran Ron Fair. TLC will be touring this summer with New Kids on the Block and Nelly.
