Early this morning, Rap-Up reported that Interscope had accidentally listed the title and release date of a new Kendrick Lamar single, which was then quickly removed from the label’s website. The song’s title was originally listed as “(i)(love myself).” But it appears as though Lamar wanted to keep the hype going, so he took to his Twitter account and posted the cover art. Now it has been confirmed that the single is simply called “i.”
The date that’s circling through the rumor mill is September 23, so as of next Tuesday we might all have the first taste of Lamar’s follow-up to good kid, m.A.A.d city. An album drop is anticipated around the end of October or the beginning of November, which would be perfectly timed with the rapper’s upcoming Bacardi event in the Bermuda Triangle.
In last month’s Complex cover story, Lamar’s manager Dave Free commented on the upcoming album and said, “All these other stories, shit that will blow your brain, have never been heard before because they’re just too personal. There’s still so much to be said. The question is, is he gonna say it?”
Let’s hope we get more insight next week. In the meantime, let the the Kendrick Lamar rumors fly and try to catch them if you can.
