Death Row Records founder Suge Knight has had another run-in with authorities. The hip-hop mogul and actor/comedian Katt Williams were arrested and charged with robbery on Wednesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. Prosecutors said they stole a photographer’s camera on September 5.
Knight, who was arrested in Las Vegas, could face up to 30 years in prison due to a prior assault conviction. Williams, who was arrested in a Los Angeles-area courthouse where he was scheduled to be arraigned in a different assault case, potentially faces seven years in prison on the robbery charge.
In August, Knight was shot at a party celebrating the MTV Video Music Awards. “The family of Suge Knight ask that you keep Suge in your prayers and to stray away from the negativity portrayed by the media,” Knight’s family said in a statement at the time. “Suge is currently resting and has lost a lot of blood, he’s human. He’s done a lot of things for the community and the culture as a whole so we ask that you respect that.”
Knight was shot during a separate pre-VMA party in 2005. And he was hit by bullet fragments during the shooting death of Tupac Shakur in 1996.
Knight received a nine-year prison sentence in 1997 for violating his probation from a previous assault conviction. Released in 2001, he went back to prison in 2003 for violating parole by striking a parking-lot attendant. He pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge in 2009 after beating a woman in a Los Angeles parking lot the previous year.
