Right after their third LP on Hozac Records, the People’s Temple return with a new 7″ from Agitated Records in London. “Utopia” is a continuation of the group’s psych-flavored garage rock, containing three of their freshest tracks to date. It’s the band’s eighth 7″ record since their inception in 2007.

“Utopia” opens with a hazy guitar hook and soaring lyrics, giving the track a groovy, psychedelic touch. “Deadfall” unfolds with the rusty wail of the harmonica, guided by the reverberated crooning of Spencer Young. Guitars sound sharp and jangly, adding a scrappy edge to the song.

B-side “Black Night” sounds lazy and strung out, led by a muddy bass line and rangy guitar chords. It all suggests that this band of brothers is at the height of their powers and we’ll wait patiently as they plot their next move.
