“Most people are surprised how serious we are about what we do,” keyboardist Robbie Chater told Pitchfork around the 2001 release of The Avalanches’s instant cult classic Since I Left You. “We just wanted to make a great pop record. We love lots of kind of sad music as well. So that side of our personalities came through. I mean, for us the initial plan of the record was to make a kind of sad adventure. It turned out, everybody’s like, ‘It’s a party record,’ but that just happened despite our intentions.”

And to think he’s merely talking about the final version. If only fans had also heard the raw original promo Zomba Music Publishing had pressed, which reportedly featured even more uncleared samples and a B-side called “With My Baby.” Well according to a YouTube leak (available below, right alongside its artwork) we stumbled upon today, you now can, refueling the anticipation for the follow-up album that’s so anticipated it got its own rumor mill roundup a few years ago.
