Kris Delmhorst writes full-bodied Americana songs, with vivid imagery of red skies, fields crying to be replenished, and rain flowing into streams into rivers into seas. Though she’s lived in Massachusetts the last two decades, Delmhorst decamped to her native Brooklyn to record Blood Test, which influenced nostalgia-rich tracks like “92nd St.” and “Hushabye.” The LP, out May 13 on Signature Sounds, is the songwriter’s first set of original material since 2008, and its 12 tracks span blues-rock (“Saw It All,” “We Deliver”), driving folk (“Bright Green World”) and jazz (“Little Frame”), held together by Delmhorst’s smoky, sturdy alto.
