Spoon has revealed the first concrete date around their imminent album. As Spin pointed out, the band has plastered a vague image across their social media channels that says “SPOON R.I.P. JUNE 10.” It’s unclear whether that’s the record’s lead single or the entire affair; either way, they’ve got a lot of tour dates on deck in the coming weeks and nothing scheduled on the 10th, which also happens to be a release day for new records and right after New York’s Governors Ball festival.

“I know [multi-instrumentalist] Eric [Harvey] and [drummer] Jim [Eno] got together in November and finally sent me some of those recordings,” frontman Britt Daniel told Spin a little over a year ago. “Right now it’s a lot of instrumental music. There were a few tunes that I have written over the last couple of years that I brought in at these rehearsals. And they sounded pretty good, actually. A couple of those, they’re — what are they? — they have slightly more soul than the last record, if anything? Slightly more R&B. And then there’s these instrumental songs. I don’t know how those will end up.”

One thing’s for certain: Spoon will not be releasing their next round of material through their longtime label Merge. They recently joined Little Dragon, St. Vincent and Ghost at Loma Vista, a Republic imprint founded by former Warner Bros. CEO Tom Whalley…
