The Chicago group Wedding Dress comes with an impressive résumé. Frontman Erin Elders is a member of Maps & Atlases, and the band’s other members hail from such esteemed acts as Joan of Arc, Suns and Gypsyblood. That experience comes through on the moody, moving “Somewhere Darker,” from the forthcoming Desperate Glow. Squeezing a barrel full of emotion into its short three minutes, “Somewhere Darker” is a soft, moving ballad of fidelity in which Elders, over blinking keyboards and a lockstep rhythm, admits, “It’s not the dark that terrified me — it’s this earth that keeps on moving,” before vowing, “I will follow you to somewhere darker/ I will write out names in the dust.” The song never erupts, just simmers slowly and steadily, emotions tightly coiled, heart proudly on its sleeve.

[Desperate Glow will be released on November 18 on Lovitt Records. The group plays the Bottom Lounge on October 15.]
