Twin River‘s Should the Light Go Out is a debut LP that signals a marked shift in sound for the five-piece. Their EP Rough Gold featured lush, folk-steeped ballads, but on single “Bend to Break” the band gives the first glimpse of their newfound garage-pop abandon. A thrumming bass line moves easily with vigorous, rapid-fire blows to the kick-drum, but Courtney Ewan Bromley’s rasp brashly bursts through the noise, placing her versatile pipes in the spotlight. Twin River holds on to jangly pop melodies among reverberating rock ‘n’ roll rhythms though, until finally leading into a raucous finale of stretchy, interwoven “oohs” and “goodbyes.”
Should The Light Go Out will be released through Light Organ Records on February 17.
