While you can trace the members of Trash Kit back through groups including Electrelane, Golden Grrrls, Shopping, Halo Halo and Lesbo Pig, you’d never call them a supergroup: the London trio are just another manifestation of the currents that swirl through London’s DIY underground. On “Shyness” they kick up a skittery, twitchy art-punk harking back to the likes of Essential Logic or Kleenex/LiLiPUT, with some strangulated saxophone from bassist Ros Murray’s former Electrelane bandmate Verity Susman. It feels like it might fall to pieces at any minute, but the predominant impression is one of freedom and unbridled joy.
Trash Kit release their new album Confidence on Upset the Rhythm on December 1.
