The Greatest Hoax is the name that DC pianist Taylor Jordan records under; his name is a sardonic reference to this book, by climate-change denier Senator James Inhofe (Jordan is also a climate change scientist.) The misty, pretty ambient music he records under this name has no pointed commentary embedded, or clear political aspirations of any kind: It is dreamlike and unreal, a meeting point between Erik Satie and Angelo Badalamenti. On “Opus No. 24,” a pitch-bent synth tone rises and peeks a baleful head over the piano’s placid surface, charging the atmosphere with some lingering menace and danger.
