There are two formidable musical forces at work in the vibrant, steadily-percolating remix of “Going Home.” One of them is Sons of Kemet, the British jazz group who wrote and recorded the original song, and whose music has garnered raves for mashing-up a host of global musical styles. The other force is Blludd Relations, the duo of Jesse Hackett and Nathan Jenkins, who turn the song into a twitchy, glitchy dance masterpiece. Their remix maintains the original’s vibrancy and globetrotting spirit, but their recontextualization draws out a host of hidden elements (the way they frame the song’s chorus amidst playground cheers and quick-blip rhythms recalls the Avalanches). Together, they make the perfect pair.
