Formerly known as Gondola, Piers are a Brooklyn trio that have placed themselves somewhere between the noisy-pop tendencies of contemporaries Beirut and UK twee group Los Campesinos. “Carving Up Bricks” is the latest jangly, uptempo single from their upcoming LP. Pulsating drum beats lead into dreamy falsetto and airy harmonies that hang over math-infused chords. That is, until about halfway through, when gang vocals amplify pure, sickly sweetness buried in a refrain of “There’s gotta be something somewhere out there/ for all of us,” enunciated with the same raw fervor as an erratic tide.
Piers will self-release their debut full-length on November 4th.
