Native America hails from New Orleans, and you can hear the city’s trademark swampy sound throughout the group’s new record, Grown Up wrong. It’s filtered through the sound of grizzled, grimy indie rock, but it’s there: in the stomping riffs that power blues-derived opener “Rabo,” in the rum-drunk two step of ballad “Naturally Lazy,” in the shadows that hang over the curled-like-a-question-mark “What’s On Your Mind.” Ross Farbe’s voice is sweet and swaying, but the music that surrounds him has dirt under its nails and sand in its gears, making for a combined final product that has the sweetness and tang of spiking the sugar bowl with a few grains of salt.

Grown Up Wrong will be released by Inflated Records tomorrow.
