Jack Name is just one of many noms de rock of John Webster Adams, an LA musician who has amassed an impressive discography over short number of years. “Watcher Talk,” from the forthcoming Weird Moons offers a good indication of his latest incarnation. A bucketful of grimy, tar-covered guitars, far-off, echo-drenched vocals and a melody that is engaging and elusive all at once. It makes a kind of sense that the record is being released on the John Dwyer-helmed Castle Face records. There’s a kind of shared DNA with the garage rock that label is known for, but in Name’s hands it’s bloodier and more gruesome. There’s a kind of asphyxiating darkness to the track, the sound of a voice spiraling helplessly through space. It’s weird and riveting, horror-movie rock with brutal raw tonnage and glassy-eyed delivery.

Weird Moons will be available on January 20 on Castle Face Records.
