Matthew Herbert is a master of sound reconstruction. Each of his songs appear to be made of of apostrophes — quick blinks of noise that appear just long enough to make a braille-like divot before vanishing into the ether. ‘Part 8,’ the final installment of his recent EP series, finds him doing what he does best with more panache than ever before. There are snatches of vocals, rubbery percussion, dreamy cloudlike synths and freaked-out, glitchy percussion. It all adds up to a mini masterwork, a brilliant pointillist creating some of the finest work of his career.
