When Caitlin Canty wrote “True,” from her upcoming LP Reckless Skyline, she was working part-time as a wedding singer and had also taken on bridesmaid duties three times that year. In the waltzing country song she questions marriage, though not in the woeful way you’d assume from that back story. Instead she ponders how marriage could change one’s independence and sense of self, asking, “How could I be true to you and true to me?” and “How can I belong to you and belong to me?”
Canty is self-releasing Reckless Skyline on January 20. Listen to “True” below.
