When Sleater-Kinney originally announced their first new album in a decade, No Cities to Love, they said the deluxe vinyl version would come with a 12-inch single containing two bonus tracks. Today is the album’s release date, and those two songs — “Heavy When I Need It” and “The Fog and Filthy Air” — are starting to surface online. Both are feral, powerhouse tracks that shouldn’t be mistaken for B-side filler.
Sleater-Kinney high-kicked through the new LP’s “A New Wave” last week on Late Show with David Letterman. They’ll return to late-night TV next month on Late Night with Seth Meyers, which hosted the band’s Carrie Brownstein recently, as did Conan. Also in recent days, the cult-adored indie rockers effectively won the internet with their video of various celebrities singing the No Cities title track.
