Sir Mix-A-Lot Approves of Nicki Minaj’s “Baby Got Back” Nods

Considering how much of his “Baby Got Back” single was sampled on the new Nicki Minaj single “Anaconda,” you’d think Sir Mir-A-Lot would either be flattered or flabbergasted. The former turns out to be the case; according to an MTV News interview, the Minaj hasn’t met the rapper in person, but she did receive his approval as the track developed.

“She called [while she was] in the studio,” Sir Mix-A-Lot said. “I don’t really know Nicki Minaj, but I can tell you this: Lazy, she is not. That girl works hard. I was blown away by her work ethic. She would hit us up, she’d be in the studio vibing, coming up with different ideas, making sure those ideas were cool. She’d call you back after a couple more hours.”

While an earlier version of “Anaconda” merely referenced the music of “Baby Got Back,” the final works in the chorus as well as that immortal opening line “oh my gosh/ look at her butt.” Yeah. Compare/contrast below…
