Scott Walker has signed on as the film composer for The Childhood of a Leader, a “chilling fable about the rise of fascism in the 20th Century” that stars Robert Pattinson, Tim Roth, Berenice Bejo and Stacy Martin. According to ScreenDaily, Martin was added to the cast after her recent breakout role as a younger version of Charlotte Gainsbourg’s lead character in the controversial Lars Von Trier movie Nymphomaniac.
The Childhood of a Leader is set to start filming in Budapest next January, with actor Brady Corbet (Melancholia, Thirteen, Martha Marcy May Marlene) making his directorial debut. As for the plot itself, ScreenDaily says “it tells the story of a young American living in France in 1918 whose father is working for the US government on the creation of the Treaty of Versailles. What he witnesses helps mould his beliefs and the film bears witness to the birth of a terrifying ego.”
This isn’t the first time Walker has penned music for the silver screen. His last composer credit was the Leos Carax feature Pola X, which hit theaters 15 years ago. Check out its trailer below, along with a tense album teaser for Soused, the Sunn O))) collaboration that’s due out through 4AD next Tuesday.
