Schoolboy Q just added to the improbably long life of Disclosure‘s “Latch.” First released as a single two years ago before appearing on the British dance duo’s masterful 2013 debut album, Settle, the Sam Smith-featuring track didn’t become a U.S. hit until more recently. In fact, it peaked on Billboard‘s Hot 100 last month, so a new remix adding a verse from the Los Angeles rapper is well-timed. The Oxymoron man’s 16 bars casually loosen up the smoothly gliding original. His come-ons are nothing fancy (“Got me some weed if you cool on the booze”), and there’s an off-kilter joke about how he’ll “drool on your boobs.” But when he closes by comparing the object of his affections to “the bomb … boom,” it only extends this hit’s slow fuse. For what it’s worth, Smith’s own “I’m Not the Only One,” from this year’s In the Lonely Hour, recently got a remix from previous Schoolboy Q collaborator A$AP Rocky; scroll down for that, and listen to “Latch” below.
