An veritable who’s who of multi-medium female artists — including Kim Gordon, Sia, Yoko Ono and Pussy Riot — have signed on to help School of Doodle launch their Kickstarter project, “a peer-to-peer, self-directed learning lab dedicated to activating girls’ imaginations through entertainment, education and community.” Which is a roundabout way of saying the Portland organization is about to launch the online arts school for teenage girls, featuring free lessons from Alice Waters, Marina Abramovic, John Baldessari, Rodarte, Salman Rushdie and many more international figures who’d like School of Doodle to excel where our public schools have failed.

“Our team is small, but our passion is not!” the collective writes. “We are a group of women who look up to our 15 year-old selves. Women who are thankful for every teacher and friend who made us bold, persistent, and compassionate. Our Pantheon of Loud Women is dedicated to Patti Smith, Princess Leia, Malala Yousafzai, Martina Navratilova, Anne Boleyn, Joan Didion, Kathleen Hanna, Peppermint Patty, Ann Richards, Sally Ride, Angela Davis and Marina Abramovic, to name a few. We come from a variety of backgrounds — art and entertainment, business and education — but are united over a shared belief that the future is spelled G I R L.”

To help School of Doodle reach their goal, they’re offering one of the most enticing $5,000 Kickstarter rewards in recent memory: original signed drawings from such major international figures as Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono, Jenny Holzer and many of the musicians we mentioned up top. If that’s out of your price range, other tiers include a coloring book ($50), T-shirt ($25), a digital 11×14” print of your choice, and pre-launch access to the site if you fit their teen girl demo ($1).
