Saul Williams Set to Star in Tupac-Inspired Broadway Musical

The world premiere of Holler If Ya Hear Me — a Broadway musical inspired by the music and lyrics of Tupac Shakur — has revealed its cast, including its star (actor/musician Saul Williams) and supporting turns from such stage vets as Tonya Pinkins (a TOny winner for Jelly’s Last Jam), Christopher Jackson (After Midnight, In the Heights), Saycon Sengbloh (Motown: The Musical, Hair) and Ben Thompson (Matilda, American Idiot). Kenny Leon, the person behind the recent Denzel Washington-led revival of A Raisin in the Sun, is set to direct, with preview performances starting on May 29 at the Palace Theatre.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Todd Kreidler’s script is “a non-biographical story about friendship, family, revenge, change and hope that opens a window onto the reality of the streets in contemporary America.” Check out the trailer for Slam — a Grand Jury Prize winner Williams starred in and co-wrote — down below…
