Ryan Adams has notoriously taken a dim view of jokesters who might request Bryan Adams songs at his shows. But the former Whiskeytown frontman’s new self-titled album cover art bears an odd resemblance to the cover of the Canadian rock mega-seller’s 1984 album Reckless, as you can see below. And last night, at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, California, the Heartbreaker mastermind did the once-unthinkable: He covered Reckless smash “Run to You.”

Scroll down to watch fan footage from a couple of angles, and marvel at the boundless capacity of human beings to grow, change and even, dare I say it, mature. (Earlier in the night, Adams also reached back to 2002 to play gut-punching Demolition nugget “Dear Chicago,” but that one isn’t as funny.)
