Killer Mike and El-P haven’t forgotten about Meow the Jewels. The Run the Jewels duo’s crowdfunded remake of last year’s Run the Jewels 2 that will use only cat sounds is heading toward reality. Recently on Instagram, El-P shared a few instrumental snippets featuring online cat celebrity Lil Bub, writing, “Oh my god what am I doing with my life.” The answer: Something purrfect.
To recap: Last fall, Run the Jewels announced a bunch of joke pre-order packages for RTJ2, and one of them was a cat-oriented remix of the LP, called Meow the Jewels. Someone started a Kickstarter to pay for the package, and improbably enough, the campaign raised more than the $45,100 asking price. Among those signing on to help with the project are Zola Jesus, Just Blaze, Baauer, Portishead’s Geoff Barrow, the Alchemist, Boots and Dan the Automator.
Just so long as all these warm feline fuzzies don’t interfere with the making of some proper Run the Jewels music. Late last year, Killer Mike said recording for Run the Jewels 3 would begin in January. Earlier this month, El and Mike performed RTJ2‘s “Lie, Cheat, Steal” on Conan.
