King Crimson have revealed their first round of tour dates since 2008, a stateside run that starts with two Albany shows in early September and winds down in Seattle on October 6. The shows mark the eighth iteration of the legendary prog band, with founding guitarist Robert Fripp leading the way alongside three “Front Line” drummers (Pat Mastelotto, Gavin Harrison, and recurring Swans collaborator Bill Rieflin) and three “Back Line” players (bassist Tony Levin, sax/flutist Mel Collins and guitarist Jakko Jakszyk).

“The Point Of Crim-Seeing was of a conventional Back Line reconfigured as the Front Line,” Fripp said of the lineup when it was finalized last year. “
The Seven-Headed Beast of Crim is in Go! mode.”

The group started rehearsals earlier this week, leading Fripp to arrive at two conclusions: “enjoying our playing together is encouraged” and “if you don’t wish to play a part, give it to someone else — there’s enough of them!”

His positive outlook stands in stark contrast to a couple years ago, when an ongoing dispute with Universal forced him to focus on outstanding royalty payments and licensing issues. “I couldn’t concentrate on music,” Fripp told the Financial Times, “so I made the choice to give up my career as a musician in the frontline to deal with the business… What has changed in 40 years? It’s very simple. Forty years ago there was a market economy. Today there is a market society. Today, everything, including ethics, has a price.”
