So who had “low-key Beatle collaborations” in the Kanye West 2015 pool? To start the year, West shared the intimate lullaby “Only One,” billed as the “first reveal of several musical collaborations with Paul McCartney to come.” Ty Dolla $ign, who worked with West on “Only One” and several other tracks, recently told Billboard that a new song with the high-powered duo and Rihanna would “drop soon,” and West played a recording of the song several days ago at a radio business event.
Now that team-up between Rihanna, West and McCartney has arrived, and it’s another stripped-down, tuneful track, with a breezy warmth you might expect from a record made at least partly in Mexico. Despite the peaceful, easy atmosphere, though, the lyrics project an unapologetic confidence, with Rihanna and West each singing at different points, “All of my kindness / Is taken for weakness.” Dolla $ign said the song, which is drumless and based around acoustic guitar, was set for West’s album, but further specifics are unclear.
Along with the three A-list stars, as Stereogum notes, the credits also list Kirby Lauryen, Mike Dean, Dolla $ign, Dave Longstreth, Dallas Austin, Elon Rutberg and Noah Goldstein.
The song is available for purchase via iTunes, and you can stream it below.
