Weather And Water

the Greencards

As Howard Dean can readily attest, endorsements might spill mucho ink, but their ultimate impact is much harder to gauge. No less than Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson chose folk trio the Greencards to support their summer 2005 tour, leading one to wonder, are those two living legends as good at judging music as they are at making it? Bob and Willie's own backing groups attest to their ears for virtuosity, and that's undoubtedly what they heard in the Greencards. British fiddler Eamon McLoughlin and Aussie mandolin player Kym Warner both play cleanly and hit the right notes, even if the picking begs for some dirt and spit every now and then. Weather and Water won't challenge many ears, but it's a pleasant and grown-up folk record.
