From the funny pages to the top of the pops.

Before there were Gorillaz, there were the Archies. The band members were talented young men and women who appeared on CBS every Saturday morning in the program The Archie Show. Said band members were also, of course, animated cartoons. Christina Aguilera aside, cartoons generally cannot sing for themselves, which left the grunt work to be undertaken by human studio musicians spearheaded by the producers Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich. Veterans of the Brill Building song factory, Barry and Greenwich helped churn out a song each week for the show. The classic is "Sugar Sugar," which begs to be remade by some red-nosed hip-hop artist.
