Solace for the Lonely

On Solace for the Lonely, the Tennessee group RobinElla (so named after their beguiling frontwoman, Robin Ella Tipton) deliver wistful, country-tinged tunes so nostalgic you can almost see the sepia tone. "Break it Down Baby" is stirring and sulty, Tipton's brandied voice dripping heavy over spare guitar. On "Little Boy", the band blends thumping funk into their mountain music and their cover of Melanie's "Brand New Key" retains the original's winking innuendo but adds front porch charm.
