Sukhawat Ali Khan

Sukhawat Ali Khan's musical training began early in life. As a seven-year old, his father taught him the intricacies of the 600-year-old Sham Chorasi traditional school of music. Nowadays, Ali Khan does the same and, here, he pens rather traditional original compositions in the style — although you will hear guitars and organ at times. But while these songs may lack the modernizing instincts of his work in Shabaz, it's clear that Khan has been wanting to branch out and simultaneously pay tribute to his roots and show off his chops as an original voice. As a result, Shukriya is a sterling collection, one full of the passion and knowledge that only a true master can bring to the table.
