Although Ned Rorem (b. 1923) is best known as a composer of art songs, these three symphonies written in the ’50s, long lost, have finally received their rightful due in sharply executed and vivacious performances from conductor Jose Serebrier and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Not surprisingly for Rorem pieces, lovely and lyrical melodies glitter throughout these works, and Serebrier and his forces coax them into truly singing lines.
