Though he's a daring electric guitarist, this Louisiana maverick (whose father Tabby Thomas was a mainstay of Excello's great swamp-blues roster) sticks mostly to a sharp, snappy acoustic for this set — all the more unusual because he uses it as a context in which to experiment with sampling and other hip-hop effects. But his introspective originals play off remakes of Robert Johnson and Son House that keep him close to the roots.
