Outland 5

Bill Laswell and Pete Namlook
Two psychedelic adventurers team up for the trip of a lifetime.

One glance at the cover art and there's no denying that the skull floating in the blackness is a portal to a world of sound that does not conform to the physical laws of time and space. Namlook and Laswell have been exploring the outer regions of the psyche for over a decade. The latest in their Outland series incorporates backwards chants floating ethereally over a bed of Middle Eastern drones. While both Namlook and Laswell are at home in the realm of dissonance, Namlook also has a love for the warmth of analog synths. Their organic pulsations are like rays of light, illuminating the ascent into the void. "Outland Exploration" is a blast into the nether regions, emitting more matrix-like bursts of musical code, bordering on deep isolationism — think Alien's ghost world of mutant eggs in reptilian embryosis. These two tracks alone make a complete and cyclical journey into darkness and light — perfect for deep listening come Halloween.
